Page 87 of 366: My Fanboy of a Brother

page 87

My brother is a fanboy. Put the blame on me.

He can’t help it. In his current environment, it would be a miracle if he is not exposed to massive fangirling and foreign sounding playlist playing all day. Sometimes he surprises me with his questions: “How tall is Shim Changmin?” “Why does not Shindong go on a diet?” “What shampoo does Ryeowook use? His hair just goes back in place.”

Though he just copies me most of the time, he does have his own share of favourites. Shim Changmin of TVXQ, Minho and Taemin of SHINee, and Leeteuk and Shindong of Super Junior. He does not like any girl groups, except for 2NE1, because they dance like “awesome badasses”, hahaha!

He likes Shim Changmin because the guy eats a lot. If Changmin would consider you to be his god if you feed him food, then my brother considers him as his role model for monstrous appetite. He doesn’t care about Changmin’s power vocals or dancing skills – it’s the appetite that matters. He even told me, “If I can have another name, I want to be called Shem Changmin.” His name is Shem.

He likes Choi Minho because the guy reminds him of a friend during grade school days who has a similarity with Mr. Bean. Wha?! Taemin, because in the Hello music video, he “draws” very good. I dunno if in real life, Taemin draws good.

I showed him this pic of SHINee’s Sherlock  in my iPod last Sunday. “Look at SHINee’s new album cover,” said I. He immediately asked where Taemin is, and I pointed the guy to him, and he was like, “TAEMIN IS A GIRL?!” I was laughing out loud at the horrific look on his face, hahaha! It’s like the world has crushed down on him. Then he looked for Minho, he said, “Why do they look like drag queens now? I like Minho being cool in the Hello music video, jumping out of the topdown car like that. I do not like them anymore.”

Errr, sorry to break it to you, SHINee boys, but you have lost that shine to my fanboy of a brother.

I asked him, “Well, if you do not like SHINee anymore, then who do you like now?” He answered, “Changmin. Just Shim Changmin only.”

A brother after my own heart – TVXQwise.

He may be fanboying over these boys and girls with reasons completely non-K-pop related, but at the end of the day, he still digs out his Linkin Park.

“Hi, Shinhwa! Nice To Meet You!”

So, I have heard of Shinhwa. In the world of K-Pop, you can never do without Shinhwa. But I have never heard any of their songs, never have seen any single music video, do not know their names except Eric because that is just so easy to remember. I just heard of the collective name Shinhwa.

Talks were, they are having a comeback. K-Pop fans were having a heyday, the legends are coming back. Me, growing up with the Western music influence, have no idea what the hullabaloo was all about. So they were the ancient boy band, so what?

My curiosity got the best of me (I am telling you, one of these days, my curiosity will be the death of me.) and I downloaded Shinhwa’s The Return album. My Twitter friend has been spazzing about it for a few days already, and she kinda shares some interest in me so I gave it a try. Who know, I might like it.

And I did! Oh gawd, they sound soooo good! When I first heard of Be My Love, I feel like I was thrown back into the 80’s again (doesn’t mean I am old, mkay? I just have music awareness at a very young age then.) with the disco-retro feel. Boy, did I not feel any regrets downloading this, and if there’s a legal copy of it around here (ooops!), I would certainly buy it.

But I am not yet going to watch their old shows, music videos, etc. Not even their recent comeback concert. I am scared, hahaha, I am scared I might like them too much and I would end up being sucked into the quicksand of a new fandom. TVXQ is already a handful for me, hahaha!

Well, Shinhwa, nice meeting you!

[Drama Rambles] Rooftop Prince Episode 1

This post has been way long overdue, hehehe!

I hate writing about something very late because I tend to forgot the important points of the drama and this is not a recap, because I suck in doing that, and if I do I tend to be very emotional and biased and you will end up reading recaps full of squee.

Okay, so the first five minutes of this drama got me shedding tears. OMG, Chunnie, what are you doing to my heart? When did you become so gooooood? You were shedding tears also in my beloved Sungkyunkwan Scandal but you never get to me the way you did in Rooftop Prince. Sigh. You have improved a lot, my dear, I am so proud of you. *sniffles tears of joy*

The time jump got me confused at first, with what Chunnie being the Crown Prince (I still can’t remember his name, I call him Crown Prince Chunnie, hehehe! Always happens to me during the first episodes of the drama.) all grown up and then he became that cute little boy again, telling his father that he wanted a beautiful wife. Boys will always be boys, regardless of the period and the age. But he was soooo cute!

As much I want to hate the older sister for not being picked up to be the crowned princess, I kind of understand her jealousy. She was excited! It’s like preparing to have a grand debut ball only to be told later that she cannot have it because she has to give way to her little sister. I know I would be jealous too. I am going to send her death glares all my life.  But I would not do such things to my little sister, like burning her face with a hot little iron disguised as a shovel.

I like the younger sister too, with her being too excited for her older sister and her feeling bad for being chosen instead of her unni. I think she is just pure hearted, but there is nothing she can do in her situation. If there is, I think she would rather give the position to her unni. Somehow though, her trying to appease her sister doesn’t work and she ended up with an ugly scar on her face for the rest of her life. Awwww.

Now with the modern day step-sisters, I do not feel the least sympathy with the older one. What the fuck is her problem? She is just a jealous bitch right from the start, right from the minute she and her mother entered that ice cream parlor (or I would like to think of it as that) with a Nat King Cole Love Was Made For Me and You musical background (tee hee!) and demanding her mom to buy her that ice cream the little girl has.And what is it with her making the little girl cook noodles for herself? Stuffing goodies from the store into the little girl’s bag? Letting her sleep at the back of the truck and then just let her get lost from their lives forever? She deserves more than just being hit by a stick on the calves. She needs to be flagged. I hate the modern older sister, grrr.

Brains over beauty. Crown Prince Chunnie, that is what you should have been looking for in a wife. See? Your wife cannot sustain your attention as much as your sister-in-law. Well, at least she makes your heart flutter with her pretty smiles.  Twist of fate has made her your wife, but I think you will be much happier with a smart wife, which I think has beauty too,  inside and out.

I kinda lost my earlier sympathy with the older sister (aka the Crown Princess) here. Is it not enough that you hurt her when she was little, but to take credit also for the things she has done, like her embroidery?

Somewhere in the middle of this episode I got bored. I think boring stuff has to happen to establish the plot? And all this time jumping makes me lost my concentration for a bit, but I was back awake when the Joseon Power Rangers has gathered, hahaha! I just want to be done with all the drama and want the funny to start.

Awwww, this makes me miss this:

So, the four has a mission, and that is to find who is the culprit behind the Crown Princess’ death, despite being the court people trying to cockblock Crown Prince Chunnie’s want to deep investigate into the murder case.  Yes, obviously they are trying to hide something. So while they were on a mission, and it led them to an ambused with the attackers hot on their heels, they jumped on a cliff and into some time machine disguised as a full moon with a dark clouds.

I do not like the main lead girl, as Chunnie’s partner. Nothing personal like someone who used to be his partner in some ugh drama, but this already and clearly a nuna. Why can’t they choose someone younger or at least matched Chunnie in the looks department somehow. She acts cute and good, except for the fur raising “tometos orenge for sel” scene supposed to be in New York New York, which makes me cringe. Well, all her English lines make me cringe, and I am sorry, I have sensitive ears for that. It’s one thing hearing an accented English in a normal daily conversation, I am fine with that, but on that TV, ugh. Unless it is a Hollywood film with Jackie Chan in it and Asians have to speak with accented English to make it more legit. I am biased just like that.

Why can’t it be Park Minyeong? Huhuhuhu. Maybe somehow hopefully along the way into the drama, I will kind of like her more, but one thing’s foshure, I cannot ship him with Chun Chun. My gawd! I just can’t. It’s like Lee Min Ho and Son Ye Jin in Personal Preference. Ugh.

And so, the Joseon Power Rangers have escaped death (bows and arrows) and found themselves 300 years into the future, still facing danger in the form of a frying pan.

Page 73

So I was out of circulation for a few days, been busy with work and all, plus I have nothing much to post here, though I have been scouring some TMTETS thread and found nothing new (well, translation wise, hehehe, though I hear there’s a network strike going on and the remaining episodes are shelved for the meantime?). I went back to the old Sungkyunkwan Scandal thread at Soompi, for the sake of just checking in and seeing how things were after 1.5 years – it’s like a homecoming to me, hee! – and I am glad that people were still posting there.

I learned that there is a Sungkyunkwan Scandal Soundtrack (Valentine Special Edition) released in Japan! Aaaaargh! Why did I just learned about this? And why do the Japanese always have the best editions? *sniffles*

From the info, it said that there are 2 CDs and 21 unreleased songs in this edition. Hmmm, been thinking. During the whole drama duration, there were not much songs played, so where did these 21 unreleased songs came from? If they mean the instrumental background music, well… I do have the ripped versions, and I am contented with those, so no need for me to shell out freaking $64 for instrumental music only, goodness! That is waaaay too expensive.

But do you think the album cover is quite better than the previous one? Yes. Again, damn them Japanese.

OMG, guess what? While I was scouring the net again for the illegal download site of the Sungkyunkwan Scandal Valentine Special Edition OST (Yes, I still can’t move on even though I have been brainwashing myself that it’s okay, I can live without it.), I found out that Lee Min Ho was in Sungkyunkwan Scandal too! OMG, why did I just realized it now? No, not The LEE MIN HO, but Lee Min Ho. Do I even make sense? The Lee Min Ho in The Moon That Embraces The Sun, shaaaaat!

Remember him? Now if you have realized that before I did, then good for you. You prolly think I am dense for not recognizing the boy, but hey! When you got Yucheon, Ah In and Joongki filling every pixel of your goddamn screen, you cannot help but stare and your neurons suddenly focusing on those eye candies alone. Even a friend who was a big fan of The Moon That Embraces The Sun failed to recognize him either. So, I am justified. *smug look*

No wonder he was close to Chunnie, because they have worked before. Word has it that he tweeted to Chunnie while the latter was having a concert in South America, even calling him Your Majesty, hahaha! How cute is that?

Why? Because he and Chunnie are in a drama together again! Yay for reunions! I am honestly excited for this, maybe because seeing Chunnie donning the hanbok and headdress again reminds me of Sungkyunkwan Scandal again (I know, I know, I always go back to that drama!) and it’s historical comedy so I expect a lot of Chunface in here.  (Why do I want to insert Yoo Ah In and Song Joongki in the pic above? I know!)

Rooftop Prince Trailers

Awwww, I sooooo cannot wait to watch it now! Please watch it and spazz with me? (I have to use my mighty morphine fantastic convincing powers on ya’ll!)

Not only His Majesty Chunnie has a new drama lately, but also Ah In. Sigh. I am so going to miss the scruffy look plus the goatee/mustache but still, he looks so goddamn hawt, yah? I think he looks best looking rugged. And wearing robes. And someone still can’t moved on over here, hahaha!

Fashion King Trailer

Rooftop Prince premieres this Wednesday, and Fashion King on … I dunno. Haha! Have to check the schedule again.

Never Let Go

“Love. It’s not just the churning in your stomach or the rapid beating of your heart upon seeing, upon being with someone. It’s just not that feeling you get when you want so bad to be with someone; when you forget about everything and just see that one person. Real love is an act of the will. It’s choosing to be with somebody no matter how bad things get. It’s not giving into the temptation of leaving when you think things are going down. It’s staying even when you don’t get butterflies anymore. It’s choosing to stay and to continue to care for a person despite anything and everything.”
“That’s what real love is. I will stick by you no matter what happens, because I love you.”

[Sticky Note #17] Just In Case Anyone is Interested…^^

… I have in fact written a fanfiction based on Sungkyunkwan Scandal some time ago, and it’s the one and only fanfiction I have written in my whole life, hahaha! I guess I need to be totally won over something in order to have the muse to write about it. Reading this just recently, I can’t believe that I have written this.

Okay, this is shameless self promotion on my work, hahaha! This was supposed to have an alternative mature ending too, but I did not push through it as I don’t want to be thought of as a pervert writer but dang, there are more perverts than me, hahaha! A friend read this and told me it was good (yay!), and that I should definitely write more (another yay!), and she is now wanting to see the drama after reading my work (self esteem is bursting!).

So, will you give it a try and see how it is?

It’s exams week at Sungkyunkwan, and as expected  the brainiac couple, Lee Sunjoon and Kim Yoonhee, are staying up late to study and prepare for the exams. They had their books on top of their study table. Sunjoon, fighting his sleepiness, was lying on the bed reading, while Yoonhee was sitting with her back leaning against the table at the foot of their beds, facing Sunjoon, reading her book too.

“How are you getting along with your book?” Sunjoon asked Yoonhee.

“There is this paragraph here that I’ve been reading again and again but I don’t seem to fully understand what it means,” answered Yoonhee.

“Let me see it.” Sunjoon got up from his bed and took the book from Yoonhee, placing it on the table. Yoonhee settled herself beside him while he was reading the page from his book.

“Oh, you’re right,” he said, “this is quite difficult but I understand it. Here, I’ll explain it to you.”

While Sunjoon was explaining the lesson to her, Yoonhee was looking at his face. How handsome he is. Those lovely eyes, his red lips, his white neck, and oh, the way his Adam’s apple moved when he talks looked so sexy too.
